The HISTORY OF THE TIME-STORM
Written by Robert Wayne Hickey and
Joe Martin, edited by Bill Love.
The Time-Storm has always existed, throughout
all of time and all of space. The time storm began on one
unfortunate night in 1994.
Both of
these irreconcilable facts are true. This swirling mass of
space-time was given birth by the unfortunate destruction of
the Time-Stone. It ripped through the very fabric of the
timestream itself, emerging as a constant throughout all
past, present and future. The Cro-Magnon man gazed upon this
enigmatic thing with a sense of awe, as did the Phoenicians,
the Egyptians, the Romans, the Visigoths and more. And as
will people not yet born.
The Time-Stone was the heart of
the Space-Time Continuum. It was its very essence and
its soul and it was under the guardianship of a select group
of self-empowered individuals calling themselves The
Time-Lords. For that was what they were; lords of time.
They could, if they willed it, manipulate the timestream,
pluck the lattices of past and future as easily as the
strings of a harp. They had come before Man, or any of the
other races for that matter. They were like unto gods and
the first of them was called Chronos. It was he who
assembled the others, hand-picking them from pre-history to
the distant future and setting them upon the task of
watching over the continuum. His primary edict, however, was
to "never intervene with the natural sequence of
events." And so they resided and witnessed from their
very own pocket universe, an alternate dimensional side
street called Infinity; a place where the ebb and
flow of time passed over and did not touch.
There they stayed, going about
work and the "Time- Lordish" things that they did
until, one day, a youthful and exuberant member among them
used his magic to whisk the Time-Stone away. He brought it
to his abode wherein was hosted a game of high-stakes
wagering with various other notables including Ashtart, a
Syro-Palestinian fertility goddess; the One-Hundred Eyed
Giant, Argus; and consulting detective Sherlock Holmes,
among others. It was here that this young Time-Lord was
beguiled by Ashtart into yielding the Time-Stone. It was
forevermore lost to the Time-Lords and the rogue Time-Lord
was subsequently banished to the Earth. The Time Lords did
not believe in death as punishment, even though his
impetuous act threatened all of existence. Ashtart knowing
that the Time-Lords would never let her keep the stone,
placed a spell of deception upon it so that it resembled a
normal stone. It was not an altogether typical rock however,
whereas she placed it in the Middle Ages, disguised as the
actual stone in which the fabled sword, Excalibur, was
embedded. And it remained thus, for eons, until the spell's
effects waned and the Time-Stone became lost.
Also, in those days of
pre-history, Lilith, the first wife of Adam,
journeyed out from the land of Eden and gave birth to a new
race of peoples that took up living in the land of Midean.
When Adam implored for her to return to him, her refusal
called down the wrath of various members of the Host. The
Great Hunt ensued in which the Mideanite people were
sought out and slain by impetuous angels. Some of the people
hid, however, and these survivors established a new order in
which they aided the Atlanteans in their quest to
establish a great empire. Meanwhile, Lilith birthed the Vampiri
and the Thropus races out of sorcery and a need to
have children who could defend themselves against the
advances of the children of Adam and Eve, humanity.
Although much of interest and
note transpired in the ages to follow, nothing compared so
much to what came about in the summer of 1994 A.D. when an
archaeologist and her expedition came upon the Time-Stone
while on a dig in England. When they uncovered the stone she
immediately forged a psychic rapport with the object,
feeling its pulsating power and the hints of incomparable
energy contained within. But her rapport was limited. It was
not yet strong enough to know the dangers involved with
tampering with such an object. On one fateful evening,
military personnel intervened and conducted an ill-fated
experiment. The result was devastation.
The explosion consumed them all
and would have destroyed each and every one of them if not
for the bond that was forged between the stone and the
archaeologist. Those she knew, those she cared for, lived,
although their lives would be forever changed. From the
resulting explosion was born the Time-Storm; a
swirling mass of space-time energy physically resembling a
mini-spiral nebula. It wiped out the underlying surface,
roughly a mile-wide, and existed there, swirling, roaring,
brimming with awesome cosmic power. And it had always been
there, since the dawn of time. In all things dealing with
the continuum, time was a constant. The explosion of the
Time-Stone had ripped forward and backward through the
timestream, leaving the Time-Storm in both eras as a
reminder, and a herald, of the events that had transpired,
or were to come. And no one would understand how it had come
to be there; no one but the members of StormQuest
Those of StormQuest were there when the
Time-Stone fractured and erupted, hurling their bodies
throughout the Space-Time Continuum. It took some doing, but
eventually they found one another again; their minds
educated, their bodies enhanced with particles of power from
the Enhancer Wave. As StormQuest, they assembled,
vowing to safeguard the Time-Storm and, if the opportunity
ever presented itself, to make things right once again.
As mentioned, however, the
Time-Storm created a new element that day it came into
being. Certainly there was that visible galaxy-simulating
mass surging and twisting on what was once an open plain
below Stonehenge in Salisbury, England... but there was more
to it than that, to be sure. Sometimes it is that which one
does not see that takes him by surprise and, as in this
case, there was the Enhancer Wave; an invisible energy that
radiated outward from the core of the blast. This energy
expanded over the Earth, enveloping it in a sheath, a field
of mystical, nebulous energy that infiltrated the
atmosphere. The Enhancer Wave, or Enhancer Field, as
it came to be called by both titles, subjected specific and
distinctive DNA strands within people to a new element; an
element that triggered the rare Enhancer Gene in
certain individuals.
Thus it was this day, in 1994
when the Time-Stone was destroyed by man that launched the
human race into becoming something "more than
human." It was this day that super-heroes, and
super-villains, were given birth as many of the children of
Eve were born anew. The enhancers became modern day
"super-people" and many of them employed their
newfound abilities for personal causes. As was the popular
trend in the twentieth century, these causes prompted
enhancers to garb themselves as the "typical"
comic book characters and comport oneself in the name of
justice or to uphold the law, or for reasons of personal
gain. Some of the more unfortunate enhancers tended to
become mentally deranged and psychotic by their change and
behaved in strange and aberrant manners.
It was a time of change, a new
era for the world. Super enhanced people had only been
depicted in comic books or mentioned in whispers in the
shadows but, suddenly, they were as real as real could be.
Some might be one's neighbors, one's employers or one's own
family. Strange times had come upon the world. Strange
times, indeed.
There were conspicuous and
striking figures among the enhancer population, but not all
of them were true enhancers. The Children of Lilith,
those she had birthed through sorcery, had flourished upon
the face of the Earth, always maintaining the Guise; a code
in which these cultures vowed never to reveal their true
selves to the children of Eve, to man.
Preeminent among these races
were two breeds of Morphers known throughout myth as
vampires and werewolves. The Vampiri are a society of
night-dwelling individuals who sustain themselves on blood,
for blood contains Soulforce and that is the vital
element the Vampiri need to live. The Thropus are a
scarce race of wolf-like people who seek only to protect
their own and live in secrecy until, one day, their numbers
might become great enough to wage war on man. Many of them,
however, fear that this aspiration will never be realized.
Modern day heroes and villains
have emerged from the effects of the Enhancer Wave as well
as from science and sorcery. The heroes act out of a need
for justice, a selflessness in a war to uphold good or,
perhaps, out of the responsibility they feel to protect
those who can't protect themselves. Those whose names are
displayed in the headlines of newspapers across the world
such as StormQuest and Tempered Steele, are
referred to as heroes by some, vigilantes by others.
And then there are the
miscreants, the villains. Those who would plague humanity,
those who would use their enhanced abilities for personal
gain or to simply wreak havoc because chaos is a thing that
they do so much enjoy. Enter Bronze Blade, Frenzy, the
Zooboys and more.
It is a time of heroic actions
and dastardly deeds as the conflict endures but is always
far from won. Whether it’s the re-emergence of sorcery,
the effects of advanced technology or the eruption of the
Time-Stone inducing the Enhancer Field, the world is remade.
Humanity, or "norms," as the enhancer population
has come to call them, must remake themselves with it.
Otherwise, the future may cast them away.
Some of the "norms"
who stand out from the enhancer population, who have remade
themselves include Race Danger, crusading to avenge
the death of a loved one, and Shadow Agents, Haggard,
Angel Shadow and Midnight Montana, following
the Darkness Chronicles on a campaign to combat the
elements of blackest magics. There were those who perceived
the rise of enhancers as a threat to international security.
Hence was born the U.N. sanctioned Toy Soldier Program,
wherein highly adaptable combat exo-armor systems were
developed, expressly to engage enhancers and to
"protect" humanity.
This is the SkyStorm Universe. Witness
its beginnings. Observe the day-to-day conflicts. Discover a
new world. Make way.
